The lanterns hung like captured stars in the canopy of the village square, their flickering light casting long, playful shadows among the throng of villagers gathered for the festival. Children darted beneath the bright garlands, their laughter a melody of its own, while vendors hawked mugs of frothy cider and honeyed pastries. The air was sweet with the aromas of autumn, mingling with the woodsmoke spiraling from bonfires dotted across the grounds.
Aedan stood at the makeshift stage’s edge, his heart a rhythmic drumbeat within his chest. The cool evening air bit at his cheeks, reminding him of the momentous task yet to come. His fingers danced over the strings of his lute, coaxing a warm, anticipatory hum from the instrument. Before him, faces turned expectantly, eager for the magic only music could weave.
He closed his eyes, allowing himself to become a vessel for the song that thrummed through his veins—a ballad of freedom and the wild, untamed spirit of the land. The first notes rolled out like the rising dawn over the distant hills, golden and full of promise.
