Introducing Novelcraft Writer for macOS

We are announcing Novelcraft Writer — our first native macOS application, arriving in April 2026. Built with SwiftUI, it delivers the writing experience Mac users expect: fast, fluid and at home on the desktop.

Our web app has helped thousands of authors finish their books, but we kept hearing the same two requests: “I wish I could write offline” and “I want something that feels truly native.” Novelcraft Writer is the answer — the same co-writer, in an app that opens instantly and keeps working when the Wi-Fi does not.

Why a native app?

Writing demands focus. Browser tabs, notifications and the temptation to check one more thing compete for your attention all evening. A native app removes those, and full offline support means a session is never interrupted by a weak connection.

What is inside

• Distraction-free writing. A clean page with a focus mode that fades everything but the paragraph you are in.
• The same co-writer. Continue, add dialogue, describe a place or refine a selection — with the same provenance rules, in the same blue pencil.
• Cloud sync. Books sync with Novelcraft on the web. Start on your Mac, continue anywhere.
• Offline support. Write on a train. Changes sync the moment you are back on a connection.
• Paper you choose. Light, sepia and dark, matched to the room you are writing in.
• Session statistics. Live word counts, reading-time estimates and what you actually wrote today.

The three-panel layout puts everything at hand: your library and chapters on the left, the page in the middle, and book details, chapter information and the Story Bible on the right.

The future of writing on Mac

This is the beginning. Handoff, Shortcuts integration and more of the co-writer’s capabilities are already on the way.

Happy writing,
The Novelcraft team
